Pear Compote
Serves 4

This is a very light dessert Mama used to make when someone wasn’t feelin’ well. I liked it best with gelato and biscotti.

2 pounds Bartlett or Bosc pears
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 tablespoons sugar
1 ½ cups water
½ cup golden raisins
¼ chopped walnuts

Peel, core, and slice the pears. In a medium saucepan, combine the cinnamon, sugar, and water and bring to a simmer. Add the pear slices and the raisins and cook for 10 minutes, or until soft. Spoon the pears and their sauce into small bowls and sprinkle with the chopped walnuts.
